An Overview Of The Characters
Abril Font is a new serif typeface designed by Jos Scaglione and Veronika Burian. It was published through TypeTogether. The name Abril comes from the Spanish word for April, which is also the name of the month in which Scaglione and Burian were born.
This font was designed with readability in mind, with a large x-height and wide character spacing. Its simple yet stylish letters make it perfect for both body text and headlines. The designers also wanted to create a typeface that would be suitable for both digital and print use.
The Abril font family contains 22 styles divided into two primary weights:
- Display.
- Text.
Abril Display Font is a sturdy, trustworthy font with a newsy feel. Perfect for headlines and short paragraphs, Abril Display has a strong presence on the page. Early 20th-century typefaces influence the design of the Abril Display Font. In addition, Abril Fatface, licensed under SSL open font license, also comes in Abril display.
The text weights resemble slab-serifs and scotch roman types from the 19th century. They keep the same styles as the headlines and, at first glance, may look like they have the same shapes but less contrast. Abril Fatface, licensed under SSL open font license, also comes in Abril display.
So far, Abril Font has been very well received by the typographic community. Many users have praised its readability and versatility. A free Download of this fantastic font is available here.
